Health Insurance Plans

The Erie County Chamber and Medical Mutual are working together to offer small businesses access to high quality health care benefits. We partnered with the Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) to offer a new type of health insurance coverage, titled the multiple employer welfare arrangement (MEWA).

Today the COSE Benefit Plan covers over 8,000 small businesses, making it one of the largest MEWAs in the country and the largest in Ohio. There is strength and security in these numbers. The MEWA allows employers to join their contributions and share risk. A larger pool means greater rate stability, plus there is stop-loss coverage to provide additional protection from large financial losses.

Numerous plan options are available, including traditional copay plans and high deductible plans. Prescription drug benefits come with all plans, as well as a suite of wellness programs designed to promote healthy behaviors. There is also the potential for cost-savings because self-funded plans are not subject to some ACA-mandated taxes, fees and benefits, and good health can be reflected in lower premiums. Coverage is available for businesses with 50 or fewer employees, including businesses of one. All plans are backed by a provider network of doctors and hospitals you already know, and supported by Medical Mutual’s loyal customer care team.
